NATALIE TRAN IN CONVERSATION

Q: What’s a moment in your journey when failure taught you something unexpected?

There were many moments where things didn’t go as planned, but those moments opened doors that I never expected. When we started the Civic Alliance, we had a small vision, to get every company in our industry to join. But the interest came flooding in from across the country way faster than we were ready for, so we had to move fast, adapt, and grow with it. My mistake here was not dreaming big enough! Now, I am proud to say that we serve over 1,300 company members.

Q: What’s a cultural or personal belief you’ve challenged along your path to prosperity?

I always thought that saying “yes” was the only way to prove myself. I have learned that saying “no” is a critical part to success. It’s a powerful sentence that can help you prioritize your days and stay focused on your goals.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who feels like they don’t fit the traditional mold of success?

Create your own metrics of success AND happiness. Staying grounded will also help you stay the course. Our world moves so fast and there is always so much incoming information, I have recently started meditating which has been such a great practice in helping me quiet the noise and stay true to who I am.

Q: If you had to summarize your journey to prosperity in one word, what would it be? Why?

Lucky! You can work hard, be nice, and do all the things expected of you, but you need to have luck on your side too. I have been extremely lucky to have had many doors held open by incredible mentors throughout my career and I am so grateful to them.

Q: If your dream were a movie, what would the title be?

The Optimist.
