The Quiet Power of Gratitude

With everything going on in today’s society, we remind ourselves that it’s important to reflect on the small, yet simple things we are grateful for. Whether it’s the breath in our body, the people who surround us, or our ability to create – we must slow down take the important moments to rest, reflect, and honor ourselves and how far we’ve come.
Gratitude is the quiet tool that helps us respond to everything around us. It calls us to notice the pieces of our daily lives that deserve our respect, our attention, and our care. And as we hold close those who are facing hardship and injustice, particularly within our own communities, we ground ourselves in appreciating what is present right now.

As we all prepare for the hustle and bustle of the holiday season through travel, family gatherings, closing out work projects and handling the kids being home from school, be sure to take time to pause and celebrate the NOW moment. Giving thanks and appreciation to what we have in front of us, enjoying the satisfaction of what is serving us in the present moment, rather than rushing ahead to what might come tomorrow.
The practice of gratitude is good for the soul, but also good for our health and overall well-being. It’s the simple exercise that makes a difference in how we expand on our journeys of chasing our dreams. Being able to take note of your progress, the ability to better articulate your strengths, recognize the improvements you’ve made, is all an important part of your process in becoming.
Simple way to show gratitude this season:
Incorporate gratitude in your daily meditation practice.
“I am thankful for my body. I am thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful for my mental health. I am thankful for how far I’ve come this year.”
Write it down.
Write a brief journal entry of the things you are grateful for.
Reach out to someone you are grateful for and let them know why.
It’s a fact that practicing gratitude has been shown to; reduce stress and anxiety, improve mood, strengthen resilience from adversity, enhance self-esteem, improve sleep quality, increase sense of connection, deepen your relationship with self and others, support mindfulness, and give higher sense of satisfaction in life.
So before you get swept away in the rhythm of family, food, and the demands of the holiday, take a moment. Consider how you can show gratitude this week, how you can be present with yourself and honor your journey, where you are right now.
